As par with the holidays, I needed to get new brakes on my car today.
They were squeaky loud.
People could hear me coming a mile away.
As I have all kids in tow these holiday days, I decided I would drop the car off to be repaired and take the kids to the movies while the car was being worked on. The repair shop and the movie theater are about a 15 minute walk from each other. Today was a beautiful day.
Perfect plan!
I check the car in.
I unload my kids and gear.
I load Preston in the stroller.
Aubrey: "Where's the shuttle?"
Me: "There's no shuttle. We're walking."
Aubrey: "Are you serious?"
Me: "Totally. It's not that far."
Aubrey: "I can't believe this! Are you kidding me!"
(The body language and snickering of embarrassment goes on and on...)
I am floored.
I can't believe she wouldn't think this was fun!
An adventure!
As she continues to carry on about how embarrassed she is, I combat the way any sane mother would.
I start waving at all the on-coming traffic.
I wave big.
I yell out "Merry Christmas!" to all who pass our way.
She starts to trail behind...
as though she doesn't know us.
As she trails, I get louder.
And so it goes...
life with a 13 year old.

hahaaha. that is awesome. where's the shuttle? cracks me up
I was SO that thirteen year old girl and was so embarrassed at every slightest little thing. Fast forward a few years to today and now I can completely understand the flailing arms and loud Merry Christmas shouts! Ahhh, if sweet Aubrey is a little hormonal, what are my 3 crazies going to be like??? We're learning lessons from you...
