Benton came home from school yesterday devastated. He got in trouble during class because he was talking when he was suppose to be reading. As a consequence, he owes 5 minutes to the teacher on Monday during the start of his lunch recess. He was in TEARS as he explained his side of the story. To watch him plead his case you would have cried for him. He clearly feels wronged.
I offered to him that he could write his teacher an email and explain himself to her. He did. This is what he wrote...
Dear Mrs.Ryan
when I got introubl today, I thot you ment to gest to sit at are desk.
Love,
Benton
In his 7 year old way, the world has done him wrong. My motherly nature is to fight his fight. I can't. Sometimes we are misunderstood and we have to take the consequences even though we feel they aren't ours to take. That is life. Thankfully this time it is only 5 minutes off of a lunch recess. Not a big deal to you and me, but a huge deal to a 7 year old.

Count your blessings that it IS a huge deal to him. He will be a good man! Oh, and good for you for letting him deal with the consequences. It sure is tough sometimes.
Good-on-ya, Lins. I completely understand. Eve's teacher is very strict, and he has a whole discipline approach that Eve is not a huge fan of. But she is learning good things through this process, I should put some of her stories on the blog!
Our hearts go out to Benton. He is such a sweetheart and we are sure he did NOTHING wrong. That being said, good for you Lindsey to offer a sympathetic ear, yet strong enough to let the consequence follow. Darling boy, darling Mom. We love you!!
