Aubrey and the Phoenix Suns

Tonight was magical! Words can hardly express the feeling of seeing your child step out on their own, vulnerable to 18,000 people and see her shine! She was amazing! Britton and I are both two very proud parents tonight. She worked so hard... and gave it her all... and came through like a little star!

Here's the run down...

We arrive at 4:30 PM for a soundcheck. While we are waiting to take the elevator, Steve Nash too is in line to hop on. So, we take the elevator ride together down to the lower courtside level! He was very nice... talked to Benton and Max and was overall very kind.

THEN... while still preparing for the soundcheck, we wheel the harp out onto the floor at the same time several members of the Suns team were shooting baskets and warming up. Stoudemire is inches from me and gets this huge smile on his face. He looks down and says, "Hey, cool, she's playing the violin tonight." The player behind him starts to laugh and tease him that the HUGE instrument is not a violin... it's a harp. He giggles to me-- and I am unable to keep a cool smile. I laughed. He was very sweet and watched Aubrey as she warmed up and did her rehearsal.

THEN... as we are leaving the soundcheck, we run into Shaquille O'Neil! He offered a friendly, "What's up?" and went about his business. The kids were DYING at this point!! In a short 30 minutes we had hit all the big guys! I wanted to turn into Mama-Paparazzi and ask for a picture but I knew Britton would have killed me...so I didn't. Wish I would've!

Showtime... so 7:03 comes along and it is time for Aubrey to go on. She was "so nervous!" at this point. Britton and I wanted to throw up. They announced her and she confidently and solidly nailed her little song. Britton and I both couldn't hold back tears. So proud of her. As she finished, Shaquille O'Neil grabbed her hand and told her what a great job she did. She was ecstatic!

In attendance tonight to support were several families from the ward, one of her teachers from school, a family from school, and a mob of immediate and extended family. They came with signs and screams and we were so touched by the support. Papa Leo worked it for us to get 3 courtside tickets... Britton was in HEAVEN!! Thank you Papa!!

Additionally, the Suns asked her to return this season for another National Anthem, date to be determined and also asked if she would perform at a Diamondback game in the Spring. She was thrilled... had the night of her life... and squealed, "YES!"

I am attaching the full video of her performance... it's my own home video and is a bit shotty. Sorry!

Seriously, how amazing was that? She sounded great! And I can only imagine the joy you felt as her parent, seeing all the hard work pay off.

Very cool that you met so many players and that Shaq shook her hand afterwards. What a memorable night!

Aubrey, you were absolutely wonderful! I can't tell you how proud Papa and I were to tell everyone around us "Yep, that's our granddaughter." One of the ladies said "Let's bring back Aubrey for the half time show." You looked so cute out in the middle of that large court surrounded by so many BIG people. Your hard work (and nerves of steel) showed because you didn't miss a note or a beat. We LOVE you so very much, Aubrey! We are so proud of the choices you are making in your life.

How AWESOME! Eve said she wants to do that when she grows up, and Grace liked the "bling" at the end of Aubrey's song and watched that part over again. What a beautiful memory, truly special. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us.

Who was more nervous-Aubrey or Aubrey's parents??? What a thrill it is to see your child use their talents to bless others lives!!! She is on her way to many great opportunities. Question for you....remember the cute pumpkin bread bowls that you served at your house....many years ago? Where did they come from?

That is just unbelievable. I feel bad for the basketball players - you stole the spotlight! Forget the game - it should've been an Aubrey harp concert!
